Very cold weather with bitter wind chills continue today, before the region gets a brief reprieve from freezing temperatures tomorrow.

High temperatures will be in the low 20s during the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Temperatures will stay in the 20s overnight, but the wind chill will be in the single digits.

Wednesday will bring a break in freezing temperatures, with highs around 40.

It will be windy with gusts around 30-35 mph during the morning to late afternoon, according to the NWS.

There’s also a chance for a wintry mix of precipitation. Light snow showers are possible, but rain is expected to mix in due to warmer temperatures, according to the NWS. There will be little, if any, snow accumulation.

However, another round of cold weather will return heading into the weekend.

A polar airmass will cause temperatures to drop around 20 degrees colder than normal, according to the NWS. The coldest conditions are expected Friday night into Saturday, with lows in the single-digits.

Highs will be in the low teens Saturday, with a chance for snow late that night.

A winter storm is expected to move through the Ohio and Tennessee valleys Sunday, which could result in some accumulating snow in southwest Ohio.

While conditions could change by the weekend, early forecasts indicate the Dayton area could see between an inch or two of snow through Sunday night.

Sunday will be slightly warmer than Saturday, but highs will struggle to get out of the teens.
