Accumulating snow is expected today, with the highest totals forecasted along the Ohio River.

Snow showers will continue through the afternoon and come to an end during the evening, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Due to recent cold temperatures, even light snow could cause slick roads. Drivers should be cautious, especially during the morning and evening commutes.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Butler and Warren counties until 10 p.m. Snow accumulations of 1-3 inches are possible, with some areas seeing higher amounts, according to the NWS.

Bands of heavy snow with snowfall rates of half an inch to three-quarters of an inch an hour are possible.

Light snow is expected for Champaign, Clark, Darke, Green, Miami, Montgomery and Preble counties.

Snow chances have shifted slightly south, with most communities south of Interstate 70 expected to get less than an inch of snow, according to the NWS.

A narrow band including Cincinnati and places along the Ohio River will see closer to 2-3 inches of snow.

More snow showers could develop Thursday night into Friday, bringing another layer of snowfall to the region.

Initial forecasts indicated this system would bring light snow accumulation, but parts of central Ohio could get another 2-3 inches, according to the NWS.

More information will be available later this week.

While temperatures will be higher this week, the high temperature will likely stay below freezing until Friday.

Highs will be around 30 today, with Wednesday and Thursday being the coldest two days of the workweek.

Overnight temperatures will drop to the low 20s to high teens tonight. The cold temperatures combined with today’s snowfall mean some roads could be slick Wednesday morning, the NWS said.

Highs will be in the upper teens and low 20s Wednesday and Thursday, with lows in the single digits, according to the NWS.

On Friday, temperatures could reach just over freezing, with daytime temperatures around 33 to 35 degrees.

The above-freezing temperatures will be short lived. Another round of frigid air is expected this weekend, limiting daytime temperatures to the teens and low 20s.

The region could get some relief next week, with milder temperatures in the high 30s and low 40s forecasted.
